Federal agents have raided the Chicago City Hall office of a lawyer who once served as President Donald Trump’s property tax attorney, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Federal agents ordered everyone to vacate the office of Chicago Finance Committee Chairman Ed Burke Thursday morning, covering office windows with brown paper, according to the report.
Burke, who is the City Council Finance Committee chairman in Chicago, has worked with Trump’s companies to reduce property taxes on Trump Tower and other commercial properties by more than $14 million over 12 years at his firm, Klafter & Burke, according to the Sun Times.
Burke ceased working for Trump this summer, citing “irreconcilable differences” in letters filed with the Illinois State Property Tax Appeal Board.
The federal agents apparent raid at Burke’s office takes place on the same day Trump’s former personal attorney and self-described fixer, Michael Cohen, entered into a plea agreement to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
